Lejeune walks for the Princess Máxima Centre

Lejeune Association Management recently became a Business Friend of the Princess Máxima Centre in Utrecht. Through an annual contribution, we support research, innovation in care and facilities for children with cancer and their families. In doing so, we contribute to the mission of curing every child with cancer while ensuring the best possible quality of life.

Our team has embraced this commitment too. When our colleague Piroska suggested walking together, the first plans quickly took shape: a short lunchtime walk and a five-kilometre route for those who want to go a little further. During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we are using these walks to raise awareness of children with cancer and their families.

“Walking is my passion. If I can combine that passion with raising a substantial sum for the Princess Máxima Centre, you’ve found something close to my heart,” says Piroska, who initiated the walking campaign.

The lunchtime walks are just the beginning. Piroska has created the 'Wandelkracht van Lejeune' fundraising page, where colleagues can join the team. People from outside Lejeune are also welcome to walk under our team name. We will keep walking beyond September to raise funds, with longer walks and other sporting activities also being considered.

One challenge already discussed is the Omloop van Goeree-Overflakkee in August 2027. The walk offers distances of 80 and 110 kilometres. Two of our colleagues have roots on the island, making this idea particularly special for our team. Those wishing to take part can train with colleagues over the coming months. Those who are not taking part in the event are also welcome to join the training walks.

“It’s lovely to see colleagues taking the initiative themselves,” says Managing Director Jules Lejeune. “Our connection with the Princess Máxima Centre came about quite by chance, but its mission immediately resonated with values deeply rooted in our family culture: caring for people, supporting one another and believing that together we can make a greater difference. Lejeune has been a family business for generations, which is precisely why we feel connected to a centre where children, parents, healthcare professionals and researchers work together towards one goal: curing every child with cancer while ensuring the best possible quality of life. As a Business Friend, we want to support that mission. Through initiatives like this, we put our commitment into practice and raise funds together.”
