Meet Loris Monasso, Association management adviser

“I do not want to be against something, but for something.”

As of the start of 2026, Loris Monasso has joined the Lejeune Association Management team as an association management adviser. With a background in the circular economy and experience in policy advisory work, he brings an analytical and connecting perspective. In this introduction, he talks about his background, his move into the association sector and his view on the role of associations in an increasingly complex landscape of regulation and competing interests.

Who is Loris

“I am 28 years old and grew up in the Achterhoek region, near Doetinchem. As my name suggests, I have Italian roots. My great grandfather came from north eastern Italy, a region known for the terrazzo craft of granite floors and worktops, which spread across Europe. Eventually, my family settled in the Netherlands.”

“After secondary school, I went to study in Wageningen. I wanted to contribute to solutions for societal challenges and became interested in sustainability and climate change. During my economics studies, however, I noticed that the focus was often on what goes wrong. I do not want to be against something, but for something. For solutions that offer perspective. That way of thinking led me to the circular economy. Reusing raw materials and developing new models appeal to me, precisely because they focus on opportunities and practical change.”

Experience in policy and implementation

“After my studies, I worked for more than four years at Haskoning as a circular economy adviser. I supported public authorities with policy issues and with the implementation of legislation and regulations. My work focused on topics such as waste, reuse and the practical impact of regulation on organisations. What particularly appeals to me is the translation process. Not just explaining what the rules are, but also understanding what organisations need in order to work with them. Acting as a bridge between policy and practice suits me well.”

The move to Lejeune

“Together with my girlfriend Jessica, I moved to The Hague. The wish to live closer to the sea and to take a new step both played a role. During my online job search, I came across Lejeune Association Management. The combination of advocacy, working with associations and operating at the interface between policy and practice immediately appealed to me. After a short recruitment process, I started on 1 January 2026 as an association management adviser.”

Which associations do you work for

“I work for Kartoflex, The Textile Recycling Association (VHT) and OpenWaste. Sustainability is an important theme within these associations, but my role goes beyond that. Associations are facing an increasing flow of European regulation. Members are not only looking for explanations of what is changing, but especially why regulations are introduced and what this means for their day to day practice. I see it as my task to provide that context and to help associations strengthen their position. Regulation sometimes develops faster than practice can keep up. That is precisely where associations have an important role to play by acting collectively and feeding signals back.”

Outside work

“From a young age, I have been closely connected to football club De Graafschap. I had a season ticket from an early age and later worked for many years in the club’s hospitality organisation. Not only for the football itself, but also to contribute to the social side of sport.

In addition, I enjoy walking a great deal, especially along the coast where we now live nearby. I also undertake longer walking routes, such as part of the Via Francigena, the pilgrimage route. I walked the stretch from Siena to Rome, around 300 kilometres.

I also enjoy painting and regularly visit museums. This is something I only discovered recently thanks to the Museum Card, but which I have now fully embraced.”

Welcome to Lejeune, Loris. We look forward to a great collaboration.
